3 Reasons To Hire A Professional

People believe hiring a professional would be a no-brainer, but this is not always accurate.  Most couples searching for a photographer want to spend as little as possible and so they try to find "alternative" wedding services and few of these "alternatives" typically end up involving having a friend, a friend of a friend or family member perform the service instead of hiring a professional.   If you are on a budget (and who isn't), when it comes time to find a wedding photographer, you may consider your friend or relative.  Although, they have offered their services many times and always at a reduced rate, consider a professional.   When it involves your most important moments and memories, saving money in lieu of professional photography just it not worth it.  We, at Grand Lens Photography, believe not hiring a professional is a recipe for disaster.   Here are our top 3 reasons to hire a professional photographer and not a friend.

1) Professionals have experience

There is absolutely nothing worse than having your wedding party standing around not knowing what to do next.  Professionals with wedding experience have a specific order of doing things, so there will not be much guess work for you while planning your wedding.  Hiring an experienced photographer will definitely ease your mind both before and during the wedding.

2) Your wedding won't strain your relationship

Hiring a friend as your wedding vendor may cause issues that hiring a professional would not.  Professional photographers build a relationship when working with a client.   However, almost always when hiring a friend, the relationship gets strained in some way.  Either a grudge is being held against you for making them work for free or you are not happy with the results and you can't inform them of your feelings.  This happy event is not supposed to ruin a good friendship.

3) Attention to detail

Experienced photographers carefully retouch images.   We use products such as Lightroom and Photoshop to ensure that the photographs are properly exposed, the colors are perfect and the image is polished to a professional level.  In post-production of wedding photos, the skin is softened, eyes are brightened, and people in the background are removed.  Your photographer plans every part of a person's wedding images to ensure that they get the best images possible.  A professional photographer does not "take snapshots"; they expedite the creation of works of art.  A professional will draw from all of their artistic training and knowledge of equipment to deliver the finest quality photographs possible.  Amateurs manage to "wing it" a majority of the event.

There are several ways to save money on a wedding, but skimping on professional photography for your most precious memories should not be one of them.  Do not leave timeless heirlooms that will be cherished for generations be left to chance.  There can be friends that help out with the wedding who do amazing work.   However, in our experience, it does not always work our for the best.   The thing is, if it was the successful norm to have a friend who has a nice camera take your wedding photographs, cater your wedding, or choose your reception centerpieces, there would not be professionals doing it.   Hiring a friend never ends well unless they already work as a professional who is your friend (in which case, you are lucky!).
